New Semester

Hello again :)

Just thought I'd fire up a wee post to let anybody who's interested know that DATM is back! Haha

I have a meeting with Mike Press himself tomorrow, since our Wayne is off sick. Right now, I'm sitting reading over my business proposal hand in from last semester, and trying to make sense of it.

I can see where I was going with a lot of it, but I plan on giving it a wee brush up before going ahead with my final essay. I think there's too much to look at based on what I have proposed, and I may be in danger of going off on tangents/getting mixed up. I digress.

I'll let you know how the meeting goes!

Peace!

Presentations

Wanted to start this post by saying how good the other presentations in our group were, very well done.

As for ours, I think it went okay. We are, admittedly, not a group of fantastic public speakers, but we managed to say most of what we had intended to. A couple of points could have been put across better, but I guess that's always the case. Have to wait now  for some feedback to see how it actually went, fingers crossed!

Fortunate turn of events!

Events took a turn again on Friday (as they seem to like doing!) and "Team Character Animation" ended up in Edinburgh, interviewing two lovely chaps who are currently working for Red Kite- Mark Wagner and Andy Reid. The interview itself was of great use- their answers were basically what we were expecting, but it's good to have it in writing!

So now, to the presentation! I believe I'm in charge of the visuals (no pressure!) so I better get cracking.

Not ideal that we also have a peer review on Thursday. More presentations!

I can see this being a loooooong week.

Endlessly chasing up interviews...

Okay, for the past week or so my team have been under the impression we'd be going to see an animator at Red Kite tomorrow, but this is no longer going ahead. The stand-in secretary chap there said he'd arrange for us to speak to another animator, so here's hoping.

Our tutor Wayne (the man with the connections, haha) has recently put us in touch with Red Kite's CEO and also with another Directing Animator he knows at Aardman. It's looking like the best we'll get at this point is a Skype interview, which isn't ideal, but it's something.

These things considered, we've had to almost completely change the list of questions we're going to ask.

So yeah, hopefully big steps forward tomorrow! Deadline is fast approaching...

Progression...

At this point, we still haven't received an email reply from our first choice company, Red Kite.

Our time together as a group last week was spent researching them as much as we could. Their own website has been very useful, but beyond that we haven't been able to source much information about them.

This week, we've been focussing on who we would like to interview at Red Kite, and what kind of questions we would like to ask them. Ideally, we would like to speak to one of the founders, or to an employee who is relatively new to the industry (as we will be when we graduate DJCAD). Of course, which of these we clinch an interview with will determine the questions we want to ask.

This week we intend to give Red Kite a phone call, see how that goes.

The reason we're so stuck on Red Kite, is that it's the only Scottish company we have looked at that covers all of the group's own personal interests and specialisms. The majority of companies are solely 2D or 3D, while Red Kite is working in both separately, and sometimes combining the two. This is ideal, as while all of us are interested specifically in character animation for TV and film- Jamie and Kirsteen are interested only in 2D methods, while I have a personal interest in both, but specialise in 3D methods.
